Venue: City Hall Lobby

Event Details

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES

The second staging of the Baguio Creative Festival aims to inspire and promote innovations in crafts and folk art by way of competitions in selected fields of expertise, and with this, provide a venue for local artists and artisans to explore new ideas and designs that would further broaden the city’s creative skyline and enliven its creative economy.

The 10-day festival will also include exhibitions, demonstrations and fora that would encourage dialogue, collaboration, cooperation and interactivity between artists, artisans and other creative economy stakeholders.

The various performances and exhibitions will be a showcase of the city’s diverse cultural scene.

The Baguio Arts & Crafts Collective, Inc. (BACCI), the organization assigned by the City of Baguio to be at the helm of the staging of the festival, also aims to be able to explore the possibility of establishing the Baguio Heritage Hill & Nature Park as the city’s permanent arts and culture center.

THE TITLE – MADE IN BAGUIO

In certain ethno-linguistic groups in the Cordilleras, the attachment of the prefix “I” to the name of a place denotes that someone, or something, is from or of that place. The word Bag’iw has been acknowledged as the origin of the word Baguio. It is commonly known to have meant moss, which according to certain historical accounts grew abundantly along the banks of the Bued river.

Ibag’iw, therefore, is someone, or something that is from, of or made in Baguio.

The title hopes to inspire and instill a sense of pride in the city’s creative sector and the rest of the Baguio community.
